D3 Central Jeju @Hallasan & South Jeju

 23-31Oct2025 Jeju&Busan

Good morning from Brown Cabin!
Really love this house, and pity that we did not spend much time here.

By 530am, we were already up & out of the house.

We'll be heading to Hallasan (at 1,947m), the tallest mountain in South Korea.
Had asked the group which trail they would like to climb: they opted for a medium trail so we will try the Yeongsil Trail. Had researched a little and found most people completed the trail in around 5 hours.
So that's the reason why we were so early.
Another reason for being early, I read that the carparks do get filled up early, so in order to avoid having to park far away and walk longer, we try to be as early as possible.

Let's go! It would be 40 mins' drive to the trail.

Here we were!

Ate breakfast while waiting for the day to brighten around 645am.
Had noted that the carpark was not small, but already almost full.
Many had already walked passed us and starting their climb.

Yeongsil Rest Area - our start point

Entrance

In October, the last timing to enter the Yeongsil trail is 12noon,
and the last timing to leave Witseoreum is 3pm.

Total 5.8km [Yeongsil → Witseoreum (3.7km) → Nambyeok Junction (5.8km)],
and it takes 2hrs & 30mins one-way.
Our plan is to walk only until Witse Oreum Shelter (toilet) & turn back (no need to go to South wall cos it will take another 1hr). There will be a flight of stairs up Yeongsil Valley for ~1.5km, however, we had been training stairs for 2 weeks, hopefully it will help.

Steps starting, although gradual.

Autumn leaves spotted although not many had changed color

Starting to get steep

Out in the open, but still quite a long way to go

We started the see the peak

Picnic time

We were eating happily until the crows came by, and obviously getting near us because of our food.

Interesting "hole" in the cloud

Going up Witsejogeun oreum

As nobody needed to visit the toilet, we decided to end it here and head down

1,800 won for parking. Pay at the gantry by credit card

Lunch place - Hweyang Gwaguksugun Jeju Sanbangsan Jeom, for their hairtail fish

Headed for Yongmeori Coast next, view of Sambangsan along the way.

Curious about what this sea creature is...

No walking along the Yongmeori Coast due to high tide!!

Since we cannot visit Yongmeori Coast, decided to head directly to One and Only cafe.
Googled and found a route to the cafe, happened to be an Olle trail..it said 12 mins walk..
so we decided to walk it.😉

Realised later that this was where the Olle chops were kept

We arrived 30mins later.

We waited more than 45mins for our food & drinks to be served!

Still early, so we decided a next stop

The Sanbangsan Bomunsa Temple

Arriving at our next hotel as the sun was setting.
Check-in first, and then head out nearby for dinner.

Hanok Hotel Hallagung

Arriving at Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market for dinner. First, settle the parking..

Supper
