Day 7: Fushimi Inari Taisha (Weather: Rainy)
In the morning, we sent Phyllis off to the train station, where she will leave for Fukui to meet her ex-colleague. Then the rest of us had breakfast at K's house. Its a low budget buffet breakfast that cost 780¥for each pax.
K's house is just few minutes away from Shichijo subway. From Shichijo, we can take the Keihan line directly to Fushimi Inari. It took us only 5 mins to get there.

Fushimi Inari Taisha (
伏見稲荷大社) sits at the base of a mountain, and includes trails up the mountain to many smaller shrines. Along the mountain, there is a path of thousands of tori gates. Each of the tori at Fushimi Inari Taisha is donated by a Japanese business. Foxes (kitsune) are found along the way, where they are regarded as the messengers carrying rice in their mouths. Worshippers visit the taisha to pray to Inari, the god of rice.

Have some snacks before moving on |
It was still raining when it was lunch time. The initial plan was to go Arashiyama in the afternoon. But as it was still raining, we decided to visit Kiyomizudera instead. We decided to have lunch at this small stall with a cute ojisan as the cook.
Everything slowed down because of the rain. And we slowed the time even more by having tea in between. By the time we get to Kiyomizudera, it was 15 mins to closing. It's a pity we could not enter.
 |
We get to Kiyo in time to hear the closing announcement.. |
At night, we met up with Jessey again for dinner, at Shijo.
