[Day 1] Kuching 18~21 May 2019

It was Sam again who kindly sent us to the airport. This time, we will be heading on an adventurous trip to Kuching, the city of cats for 4 days 3 nights. Our trip was planned according to a blogger's 3 days 3 nights trip and we followed almost all the itinerary, including the place that they stayed and the adventures that they went on.

Onboard Scoot plane to the destination of city of cats. The flight is only 90mins away from Singapore. We took the 615am flight, arrived and got out of the Kuching customs well before 8am.

As there were 5 of us, we got ourselves into a 6-seater Avanza. It was almost difficult to squeeze all our luggage into a small 6-seater due to the small boot area.
In less than 30 mins, we had arrived at our accommodation. We were very close to the waterfront of the Sarawak river. Although we were not living in town, it's still quite happening around the waterfront, especially at night. The Kuching Waterfront Lodge is quite an interesting place to live in if you do not mind a vintage, old shophouse and you just need a place to sleep in. It does not have the luxury and maybe the tight security which you would find in a hotel.
Although we arrived early, our rooms are available, hence, we managed to get ourselves checked-in early.

Our friend from Kuching had sent a list of recommendations. Kolomee, laksa, and seafood are on top of the must-try list. The first stop was to have breakfast at Kim Joo kolomee, which is just on the street behind our accommodation, on Jalan Ewe Hai. We were so glad to eat it. The noodles do not come with any chilli or ketchup but very sinful "bah you", making it very fragrant and delicious. The pork siew mai are also very good, comes in a plate of 10pcs.

We embarked on our next destination, in search of the cats statue in town. The distance from our place to Chinatown is not far, so we decided to walk there, in a way we can also discover more around the area. And we were quite lucky the weather was quite cloudy in the morning, making our walk very pleasant.

Pepper-filled "Meow" bottles, found in shops selling local supplies. Pepper is one of the must-buys from the city, especially white ground pepper. And the other must-buy item is Kway Lapis.

A Cat Café, found along Jalan Ewe Hai.

Nice cloudy weather in the morning on our first day in Kuching.

Along the way to Chinatown. We can see the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly Building and Fort Margherita from here.

The representative statue of cats in the entrance of Chinatown. While around the area, we happened to see a shopping mall that sells sportswear from Adidas, Under Amour, Nike, and Puma, and managed to spend some time shopping and spend our ringgits.

Next up is the roundabout of smaller cats.

This is the gate of Chinatown, and the cat that changes clothes on festivals, greeting "Hello" in front of the gate.

The afternoon sun has came out and the place was starting to get really hot. We quicken our pace to Madam Tang for lunch. Madam is popular for their laksa, teh c peng (3-layered tea) and white lady drink, so we ordered all of it ..lobster laksa, which not every one of us can accept because of the spices. The teh c peng tasted really good, and white lady ..hm.. its a sort of jelly drink with evaporated milk and lemon.

After lunch, we headed back to Waterfront lodge by grab to take a rest. It's like we have been to many places already but it was only afternoon. After a short nap, we freshened up and were ready to go again.

Jean and Keng enjoyed taking photos at the wall art near the open air market.

At night, we had dinner near the open air market, after asking a local from the nearby local supply shop where he usually eats. He told us to go to Chai Heng, which serves quite ok level food. In Kuching, the trip will be wasted if you did not try this wild vegetable which can be found widely in Sarawak. I believe the vegetable is called midin, a kind of fern which can survive in the wild without attack from pests.

Taking a stroll along the Waterfront of Kuching river, we saw a mosque and the Darul Hana bridge.
Noi was in Kuching too, she told us to meet at night at the crocodile.

Met up with Noi at the crocodile statue.

She's not in the photo, but she's the one who took it.

Later at night. Lau Ya Keng and the Barber.
