Mount Bromo, Bondowoso

Nopi picked us at 1am, and we arrived quite prompt by 2am.
We waited in the car as it was cold, while waiting for the jeep guide to arrive.
He arrived like around 3am.

Given that it was the peak visiting period, the way up to our destination was jammed and packed with people. As I sat in the back of the jeep, I vomited once along the way and had my head down throughout the whole journey. The 1-hour journey up took almost 2 hours to make it.
Nopi was prepared along the way and when I vomited, he gave me a mint and switched seat with me, which helped a lot.

It was almost 5am when we arrived at observation deck of Mount Penanjakan.

On the way up - it was a little steep but short 10mins climb.

Something was burning .. pity ..as it spoilt the view a little.
Around 515am, we started to see the sun rising.

We can see the lights from the town below.

It sure was crowded ya.. 😓

Beautiful clouds surrounding us

We started to move to the other side as it gets brighter.

Mount Bromo (2,392m), with large crater, is in the middle, the mountain in the front is Mount Batok,
while in the background is Mount Semeru (tallest). The cluster of mountains actually makes up the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. Mount Bromo is not the tallest, but famous because it is still active and located in the middle of a plain called "Sea of Sand".

Beautiful as the "tiny" sun was rising out from the mountain

So beautiful, we can't let go easily.

Time to head down

There are toilets near the car park, we paid 5,000 for usage

That's our jeep

Next, we'll be driving down to Bromo and climb to the crater.

Arriving at the "sea of sand"

Stopped upon our request to take photos with the jeep

Driving further up to nearer to base of Bromo.

We parked at an area at where everyone else parked, then Nopi started to guide us towards Bromo.

That's where we were from in the morning - Mount Penanjakan

We will see many horses, ponies along the way.
For 200,000 IDR, we can ride the horse to the crater base and back.

Mount Batok (2,470 m) - it's not active anymore and is covered with trees and shrubs.

Passing the Hindu temple

It's not an easy climb up as the route was although a little elevated, it was very sandy and our feet sank into the sand with every step, making it difficult to walk. It was also very windy, so sand was flying around and oxygen level was low.

We were approaching the ~250 steps up to the crater

The locals sell flowers for people to buy as offerings

Time for the climb... we had gotten breathless by this time.. and gotta take it slow when going up

We made it!!!!!

Wanna update my family what a majestic sight

Finally I get to see a crater! (We missed it during the recent Kyushu trip)

There were too many people on the other side of the crater, hence, the only way was to head down.

It was around 10am in the morning.
Heading back to pick up our car and then head back to hotel for breakfast and check out.

We managed to request 1-hr late checkout to bath and have brunch.

Arriving in Bondowoso after 4 hours

Ijen View Hotel Resort

Nopi to pick us by 545pm to go for dinner.

Ayam goreng for dinner

There's even a live band

And then, seems like the gals had been eyeing this and requested Nopi to stop us to buy a drink.

Time for bed by 820pm
