DAY 6 - ODAIBA, TOKYO DISNEYLAND
We started the morning with Soba noodles (cooked with spring water from Mount Fuji) at a nearby restaurant that opens 24 hours. It tastes so so, unless one really likes soba noodles.
Next, we make our way to Shimbashi (on the Toei Asakusa line) where we changed to Yurikamome train, where it took us to Odaiba. We heard that Odaiba is an island made from reclaimed land. And there are several places we will visit namely, Aquacity, Divercity, Decks and Palette town.
Crossing the bridge to Odaiba.
We can see the Rainbow bridge from the train.
Arrival at Odaiba. we alighted at Daiba station, and headed to take photos of Rainbow bridge and "Statue of Liberty". It was 9 plus in the morning and the shops are not open until 10 am.
Look at rainbow bridge, and the clear blue sky.
Statue of Liberty in Tokyo?
We found the Flame of Liberty.
That's Fuji TV building (just across Aquacity Odaiba). We did not visit it due to lack of time and also we are not really interested in the TV history of Japan. But the building looks really hi-tech and majestic.
Divercity Tokyo was our first shopping stop in Odaiba. But before getting in, don't forget to snap a picture of giant Gundam at the front of the building.
Hello Kitty Green tea ice cream at Hello Kitty shop.
Calbee Café..interesting.. In Singapore, we only get to eat Calbee chips in a pack. But this cafe's selling potato snacks fresh over the counter, so it's a must-try. The deep fried fries - salad flavour tastes really good. Yum!
Recommended by a colleague, we must eat at Kushiya when we visit Odaiba. And we made it a point to have lunch there. And awaiting us was a long queue (more than 30 mins wait), which was quite unexpected because we thought it was a Monday and the shopping mall doesn't seems to be crowded. Guess there are not many popular restaurants in Divercity..so everyone's flocking to eat in this place.
It costs 1,620
円 (include tax) per adult to dine for 90 mins.
In Kushiya, we need to deep fry our own food, where we will get food from the buffet table.
It's really fun and we really enjoyed having lunch at Kushiya.
Next stop, more shopping at Aquacity Odaiba.
Flying Tiger has flown in from Denmark. haha..selling stuffs from decorations, household items to stationary..at quite low prices about few hundred yen..
We realised there are many such shops in Tokyo, namely, 100 yen shops, Daiso, 3 Coins.. We get really excited when shopping in these shops where items sold are low-priced and useful.
Time really flies and we realised it is time to leave the place for the next attraction. So we gotta give Decks (we were supposed to visit Trick art museum) and Palette town (with Ferris wheel) a miss.
Along our way to train station, we saw the Ferris wheel of Odaiba.
Preparing the tickets for our next destination.
It takes only 30 mins to travel from Odaiba to Disneyland, so we took the chance to visit the place on a Monday evening (Hoping that it will be less crowded). From Tokyo Teleport station, we took the Rinkai Line to Shin Kiba, where we need to change to Musashino Line which took us straight to Maihama station Resort Gateway. While in the train, we already spotted Japanese girls dressed as Dalmations puppies, and Minnie mouses etc.
The After 6 tickets (3,900 yen) were purchased earlier at Skytree Disney shop (Day 1) so that we could skip the queuing time in front of Disneyland.
Upon arriving at Disney, we realised we have made the right choice to purchase the tickets earlier. But it was not only ticket queues that was crowded, we even need to queue at the gate to wait for the opening at 6 pm. Judging from the crowd on a Monday night, I guess there is not a day that Tokyo Disney will be less crowded.. the Japanese seems to love Disneyland a lot..in addition, now's the Halloween period plus it was the disney character dress up day.
This was the no-ending queue we started to wait from 530 pm.
Cinderella's Castle
As queues were long for most of the rides (more than 45 mins wait), we only managed to go for 2 rides, the Pirates of Caribbean boat ride and Star Wars ride, and the parade.
Presenting the Tokyo Disneyland Electrical Dream Lights
Beautiful mosaic tiles of fairy tales found within Cinderella castle
Although the fireworks session was cancelled due to strong wind.. we still had an enjoyable evening.
We proceed on with more shopping at the theme shops..actually it was super crowded in every part of the place..there were queues everywhere..including the dining places.
So we explored the place as much as we can cover. And at 10 pm, it was time to go.
We have missed the train ride earlier..so we make it a point to ride it back to Maihama.
